Charlotte Iserbyt Explains Havelock’s Change Agent Training

Charlotte comments on her “training in Maine in 1976 on how to become a change agent, using Havelock’s Guide. Mainers should be aware of what has been going on and why their children no longer have “their” values.”

This is Charlotte’s comment related to Bole’s email to her (posted below). ” Bole is from Bosnia, former Yugoslavia, and knows what he is talking about.  He wants a copy of Havelock’s “Innovations in Educaton – A Change Agents’ Guide” which is about impossible to get except for a couple copies at Amazon (expensive).”

“I (Charlotte Iserbyt) went through Havelock’s Change Agent Training, to which Bole from Bosnia, refers, in 1976 in Maine and was trained to “identify the resisters in my community” (those parents who resisted all the values destroying programs being implemented in Maine schools) coming out of the National Diffusion Network, U.S. Dept. of Education, and pushed by the Maine Facilitator Center in Gardner, Maine. Being trained to basically “identify myself” – since I was resisting these programs as a school board member in Camden. This federally-funded Marxist teacher training was enough to get me started researching American education and to never, never stop researching and writing about it. It is ironic that I ended up being the Senior Policy Advisor in the office in the U.S. Dept. of Education which was promoting, funding and distributing this information WORLDWIDE, not just into Maine. The very office which had originally financially, with your tax money, and supported Havelock’s work and his book “Innovations in Education – A Change Agent’s Guide”. By the way, the State of Maine received a gold medal for having accepted the greatest number of these values-destroying programs nationwide. And, of UTMOST importance, the Guidance Counsellor’s journal stated in a special issue it published in May 1977on “death education” that all these programs which had “education” hanging off the end of them: “sex, drugs, alcohol, death, bullying”, etc. were designed to do the opposite of what they told the parents and taxpayers they were designed to do. They were designed TO CHANGE THE CHILDREN’S VALUES FROM ABSOLUTES TO NO ABSOLUTES! (NO RIGHT, NO WRONG)”

THE SPRING 1984 ISSUE (VOL. 7, NO.4) OF EDUCATION UPDATE FROM THE ASSOCIATION FOR Supervision and Curriculum Development carried the following statements. (See especially bolded last paragraph, Ed. Note)

“One comprehensive study concludes that counseling can have marked deleterious effects on problem students. Joan McCord, a Drexel University sociologist, undertook a 30-year follow up study of a classic, highly respected study on juvenile delinquency—”The Cambridge Somerville Youth Study.” In the original study (first report in 1948) an experimental group of 253 high-risk problem boys were given extensive counseling. A control group matched as to behavior, history, and family background received no counseling. In 1975 Professor McCord contacted the original participants and compared the circumstances of the experimental and control subjects. The experimental subjects were, among other things, found more likely to commit criminal acts, be alcoholics, suffer from mental illness, die younger, and have less prestigious jobs than the control group.

Note: The results of this study match the negative results discussed in the May 1977 issue of The School Counselor, American Personnel and Guidance Association’s Special Issue on Death, which said,“Death education will play as important a part in changing attitudes toward death as sex education played in changing attitudes toward sex information and wider acceptance of various sexual practices.” In other words, counseling, sex ed and death ed have negative effects, if, as one would hope and expect, the purpose of such programs is to help young people live happy and stable lives. This is particularly disturbing in light of increased student violence which has taken place in the nation recently.]”

“Hello Charlotte!

I will wait for the summer. There are some references to the book in few educational papers here, but Havelock, himself, is mentioned many times. Looks like both our educationalists learned their stuff from the same books and still teach the same ideas at colleges and in-service training sessions. It is a worldwide socialistic/communistic/communitarianism brainwashing.

Names of all important persons mentioned in 3D can be found in literature lists at end of the books that our professors have written! They use works and ideas of the same psychologists and sociologists, mostly, those from the Frankfurt school. Even Marc Tucker is mentioned in some works. Paulo Freire is like a hero to them, not to mention Erich Fromm, Abraham Maslow, Herbart Marcuse, Theodor Adorno, etc. B. F. Skinner and Benjamin Bloom are like semi-gods in our education! Our “intellectual” youth is hooked on their ideas!

They teach the same things on teachers colleges as they did back in socialist Yugoslavia. those colleges are like socialists recruitment boot-camp and nobody (especially the younger people) know or care about the fact. I know older professors know what this is all about and they won’t speak about it, but when they retire, these young fellows coming to their positions will continue the propaganda not knowing the thing about its main purpose which is dumbing down to happy little competent mobile world-class socialist workers… There are but few differences in language – semantic deceptions, as you noticed correctly.

That’s why I was so amazed when I red the 3D for the first time – the resemblance to what is going on here was astonishing! Little do I knew about the fact that all was carefully planned and has been going on for years. Nobody talks in that way here. The things prospect teachers learn at university and the things they do in the classroom are considered as God-given (state-given). Well, we know that is far from the true.

“The deliberate dumbing down…” should be translated in at least one language. I am translating a little bit of it into Serbian for my own use and to help my friends teacher and myself in realizing the danger of all the reforms, innovations and changes happening in our schools, education system, country and Europe and the world as a whole…and to fight it.
