“Former Maine Governor Joseph Brennan, who served as the state’s 70th governor from 1979 to 1987 in the course of a long political career, has died at the age of 89.
Brennan’s fellow Democrat and former U-S Senator George Mitchell says Maine has lost a great leader.
Former Portland Mayor Gerard Conley, a friend, says Brennan “was very conscious of the poor and taking care of those who’ve been left behind, but he was also very frugal with a dollar.”‘

They all die with such fantastic legacies. Sadly, and unfortunately, a Mainer’s life was of no concern to Governor Joseph Brennan, nor to his cohort Senator George Mitchell.
For the sake of fairness to the public…. A MOST POWERFUL, REVEALING VIDEO BY TOM DUNN should be included in these archives during Governor Brennan’s tenure as Governor. View video HERE

Also of particular interest – In 1999, PresidentClinton nominated Joseph Brennan to serve as a commissioner on the Federal Maritime Commission, a small independent agency that regulates shipping between the U.S. and foreign countries. He was renominated (by President Bush) and confirmed for a second term at the FMC in 2004.
