The War On Drugs…

MassLive reports “Lawrence officer arrested after threatening FBI informant. A Lawrence police officer was arrested by the FBI Thursday night, charged with extorting drugs and cash from a Merrimack Valley drug dealer, who was also an FBI informant.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office announced that John Desantis, Jr., 43, was arrested by the FBI at his Methuen home on a federal warrant. In a preliminary hearing Friday, he was ordered held pending a detention hearing on Tuesday, May 31.

Desantis had been a Lawrence police officer for 16 years but had been on medical leave for over a year, and for much of that time with no pay.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s statement, the FBI alleged that Desantis had been purchasing cocaine from the informant dealer for over a year, making buys once or twice a week.

The dealer has sold drugs in the Merrimack Valley and in Southern New Hampshire for several years, all the while informing for the FBI. The dealer was described in court documents as a Dominican citizen living in the United States illegally.”

BOSTON (AP) — “Two explosions shattered the euphoria of the Boston Marathon finish line on Monday, sending authorities out on the course to carry off the injured while the stragglers in the 26.2-mile trek from Hopkinton were rerouted away from the smoking site of the blasts.”   Read more.

Boston Marathon Explosions:  “Three people have reportedly been killed after two explosions at the finish line of the Boston Marathon. About three hours after the winners crossed the line, there was a loud explosion on the north side of Boylston Street, just before the photo bridge that marks the finish. Another explosion could be heard a few seconds later. ” Read more.

New York Post reports “Authorities ID suspect as Saudi national in marathon bombings, under guard at Boston hospital. Law enforcement sources said the 20-year-old suspect was under guard at an undisclosed Boston hospital.” Read more.
