  1. I’m reading Lise Dupont’s book and wondering is there a difference between elected and appointed judges when it comes to the commission of a judge?

  2. Hi Jenn,

All judges must be commissioned since it has two functions.

    1. It provides the judge with a title such as Chief Justice, Associate
Justice, District judge, probate judge and so forth.

    2. It provides the judge with an office, a public office, that he or she
operates from and can hear criminal and civil causes.

    Without it they are impostors.

There aren’t any commissioned judges here in Maine, no county courts (local control) since 1930, and no longer any trial by jury of “his” peers (see Art. 1, Sec. 6) since 1935

    Hope you like the book.

    Thank you!

    Lise from Maine
